Fellow status recognizes exceptional achievements and sustained contributions to the field. Among the association’s highest international honors, it is awarded following a rigorous professional assessment of candidates’ accomplishments and contributions over the course of their careers. The recipients were approved by the association’s selection committee and Executive Committee.

A specialist in human factors engineering and systems analysis, Bitan also directs the University’s Research Center for Simulation in Healthcare (SimReC). His research examines decision-making in complex environments, how people handle incomplete or conflicting information, the design of alert systems, and ways to improve the interaction between healthcare professionals and the systems they use. Applying these insights helps improve the design of systems and workflows, makes healthcare delivery more efficient, and enhances patient safety.

“I am proud to have been elected a Fellow of the association,” said Bitan. “This recognition underscores the importance of human factors engineering in healthcare systems. For me, it is an incentive to continue leading research and expanding collaborations in Israel and internationally.”

Bitan’s election represents international recognition of his achievements and his contribution to advancing human factors engineering, particularly its application in healthcare.

Founded in 1959, the International Ergonomics Association is a nonprofit organization that brings together professional and scientific bodies from around the world. It promotes research, knowledge, and the practical application of ergonomics and human factors principles to improve safety, efficiency, and human well-being by optimizing the fit between people, their environments, and the systems in which they operate.
