Eran Maniv awarded ERC Starting Grant

Dr. Eran Maniv of the Department of Physics at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant for 2023.

Dr. Eran Maniv of the Department of Physics at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant for 2023. The grant provides up to 1.5 million euros and additional funding of up to 1 million for equipment over five years.

Dr. Maniv works in the field of experimental physics studying solid-state systems suitable for next-generation quantum devices. This research has critical implications for understanding novel quantum phenomena such as unconventional superconductivity, frustrated magnetism and electrical manipulation of charge and spin orders.

He currently leads a dynamic research group which is capable of synthesizing, fabricating, and studying all desired quantum phenomena. Dr. Maniv will receive the ERC grant for his proposal to develop new and exotic quantum materials for quantum devices from a variety of pure or intercalated transition metal dichalcogenides.

"Receiving the ERC grant is an amazing opportunity for me to tackle the most challenging questions and obstacles experimental solid-state physics presents to us with the help of a team of hard working and talented researchers here at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Moreover, with the extremely large grant support, our laboratory will expand its capabilities to the lowest available temperature and quantum regimes," says Dr. Maniv.

The ERC, set up by the European Union in 2007, is the premier European funding organization for excellent frontier research. It funds outstanding researchers to run groundbreaking projects. The ERC offers four core grant schemes: Starting Grants, Consolidator Grants, Advanced Grants and Synergy Grants. With its additional Proof of Concept Grant scheme, the ERC helps grantees to bridge the gap between their pioneering research and early phases of its commercialization.
