Prof. Louisa Meshi Appointed Pro-Rector for Education

In recent years, Prof. Louisa Meshi has held various senior positions in research and academic administration at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. As of August 1st, 2024, she will assume her new role as Pro-Rector for Education.

The role of Pro-Rector for Education aligns with the university's emphasis on integrating innovative, experiential, and creative teaching methods. This position is part of a long-term strategic plan announced by President Prof. Daniel Chamovitz, aimed at enabling Ben-Gurion University students to fully realize their potential.

Prof. Louisa Meshi, a faculty member in the Department of Materials Engineering, has been appointed to the position of Pro-Rector for Education, succeeding Prof. Timor Melamed, who has completed his tenure.

From the outset of her academic journey, Prof. Meshi has been intrinsically linked with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. She studied in the Department of Materials Engineering, where she earned all three of her degrees. In 2009, following a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Physics at the University of Bristol in England, she joined the Department of Materials Engineering as a lecturer and has since held various senior positions in research and academic administration.

Since 2023, she has held the Stephen and Edith Berger Chair in Physical Metallurgy.

Recently, she was appointed co-editor of the IUCrJ (International Union of Crystallography Journal). The editorial team of this prestigious journal publishes professional articles on crystallography, as well as current reviews and groundbreaking research papers.

In the past two years, together with University Rector Prof. Chaim Hames and in collaboration with Alona Kushnir from the Division of Public Affairs and Resource Development, Prof. Meshi has promoted and led the "Aliyah to Academia" program, designed for new immigrants from Russian-speaking countries.

The collaboration with the Rector’s Office will be further strengthened starting August 1st, 2024, when she assumes her new role as Pro-Rector for Education.
