The University held an event this week to recognize the contributions of its students and faculty doing or having done reserve duty in the IDF. More than 6,500 students and faculty have completed reserve duty since October 7, which is one of the highest rates among Israeli universities. Several hundred continue to serve.
The event, which featured a concert by Eden Hasson, was well attended by over 2,500 reservists and some of their partners. The Chief Reserves Officer Brig.-Gen. Benny Ben Ari and President Prof. Daniel Chamovitz both addressed the crowd of thousands. In addition, Amir, a student who just came back from reserve duty in Gaza and is slated to return to it in the coming days also offered his insights.
In addition to this fun event, the University has taken a number of steps to accomodate students returning from reserve duty. The first semester of the previous academic year was delayed until December 31, 2023. This past summer, the University added an entire summer semester to bring them up to speed to start the coming academic year.
Moreover, the University has made available an entire array of psychological services and academic tutoring.
