Prof. Shai Arnon Appointed Director of the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research

Researchers at the Institute focus on understanding the processes occurring in aquatic environments, thereby assisting in tackling complex environmental challenges and developing solutions for water quality issues.

Prof. Arnon succeeds Prof. Amit Gross who served in the role for the past six years.

Prof. Shai Arnon recently assumed the directorship of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev's Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research. He succeeds Prof. Amit Gross who served as director for six years.

“There is a growing recognition that knowledge in the field of water is a strategic asset, particularly in light of the expanding phenomenon of desertification worldwide,” emphasized Prof. Noam Weisbrod. "I extend my gratitude to Prof. Gross for his extensive contributions and congratulate Prof. Arnon on leading a world-class knowledge center for advancing sustainable water solutions."

A recognized authority in stream pollution, Prof. Arnon conducts both fundamental and applied research concerning rivers in Israel and around the globe. He is a member of the steering committee for monitoring the Sea of Galilee and its catchment area on behalf of the Israel Water Authority, serves on the scientific committee of the center for flood research at the Dead Sea and Arava, and is active in training the next generation of water professionals in Israel.

The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research operates within the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research at Ben-Gurion University’s Sde Boker campus. The institute's multidisciplinary team includes hydrologists, soil scientists, geologists, chemists, microbiologists, and engineers who employ both experimental and theoretical approaches to develop solutions and respond to water-related challenges. The institute serves as an international research environment and a national center of expertise and training in water-related issues.
