The Institute for Software, Systems, and Security (S³) is a unique research center that unites experts from across computer science into a vibrant multidisciplinary community. Its work spans the full spectrum of computing: from traditional cybersecurity to AI security and AI-driven methods for cyber defense; from software engineering and the design of reliable, efficient systems, through databases and intelligent information management, to parallel and distributed computing that supports large-scale, high-performance applications. Beyond advancing theoretical knowledge, the institute actively addresses the urgent challenges of the digital age, with a strong focus on developing new approaches to securing AI systems, defending against adversarial attacks, and ensuring the safe and responsible use of AI technologies in strengthening cyber resilience. At its core, the institute promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, cultivating a culture of joint research, knowledge sharing, and innovation that drives groundbreaking solutions.

Head of the Institute
Prof. Danny Hendler
Prof. Danny Hendler is the Head of the Institute for Software, Systems, and Security at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. He is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and is internationally recognized for his contributions to distributed computing, synchronization, and parallel data structures, including his influential work on scalable algorithms and the Flat Combining technique. With nearly two decades of experience in the software industry, including serving as Vice President of Research and Development at AppStream, he combines academic excellence with practical expertise in leading the institute, which advances innovative research and training at the intersection of software engineering, systems, and cybersecurity.

The CBG Research Center
Cyber@BGU (CBG) is a leading cybersecurity research hub at Ben-Gurion University, now part of the S³ institute within the new Faculty. CBG drives cutting-edge research in cybersecurity, the security of AI systems, and offensive AI, bridging academia and industry through innovation and applied science. Graduate students interested in these areas are encouraged to pursue their research within CBG under the guidance of affiliated faculty members and expert researchers.
