Tomer Hertz

Systems immunology

The laboratory studies responses to vaccines, natural infections, biological
therapeutics, and autoimmune diseases. We use a broad set of laboratory
methods to generate high-dimensional immune data and develop
computational tools to analyze such datasets. We use various methods to
map the immune response, including broad characterization of antibodies,
T-cells, and cytokines. Our studies are based on biological samples collected
in clinical studies, animal models, and wild birds. Current projects in the lab
include: Profiling influenza vaccine-induced antibody responses and the
effect of immune history on responses to vaccination (mice and humans);
Identifying immune correlates associated with sensitivity to respiratory
viral infections (risk and disease severity); Profiling the maternal-fetal
antibody transfer and vaccine-induced antibodies in newborns; Profiling
the responses of migratory birds and identifying previous exposures to
infectious diseases; Studying the effects of high-intensity training on the
immune response to viral infections and vaccines; Studying the effects of
obesity on response to influenza vaccines and natural infection; Effects of
flavivirus vaccines on natural infection by other flaviviruses; Developing a
novel antibody assay for profiling responses to polio vaccines that do not
rely on live polioviruses.
