Ohad Birk

The lab focuses on researching hereditary human diseases, from genetics
and molecular mechanisms to disease models, prevention, and treatment.
We investigate the molecular basis of novel hereditary diseases, from
genetics and bioinformatics uncovering disease-causing mutations,
through biochemistry (DNA, RNA, Protein) and disease models (cell lines,
CRISPR - mice, zebrafish, fruit flies, patients' stem cells) - each project in its
specific venue. Research in our lab combines high scientific impact with
major translational implications studying the unique inbred cohorts in
southern Israel. The large array of diseases studied include neurological,
endocrine, cardiac, skeletal, eye diseases, familial cancer, metabolic
diseases, etc.
