About the Faculty

The Faculty of Computer and Information Science is a new faculty established by Ben-Gurion University in the summer of 2025. The faculty is composed of two former departments: Computer Science (CS) and Software and Information Systems Engineering (SISE). The two departments merged into the new faculty to further promote the excellence of research in CIS-related areas. The faculty has a unique and novel structure and is divided along two segments: research and teaching.
Our research segment includes five research institutes:
- Institute for the Theory of Computing
- Institute for Interdisciplinary Computational Science
- Institute for the Foundations of AI
- Institute for Applied AI Research
- Institute for Software, Systems and Security (S³)
Each researcher chooses to be affiliated with an institute that best matches his/her scientific theme but can change that choice dynamically.
In the teaching segment, we offer four different undergraduate degrees: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems Engineering and Data Science, as well as Master's and PhD programs.
