Dr. Maya Mark is an Assistant Professor at the Ben-Gurion Research Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.

She holds an LL.B. (magna cum laude) and an LL.M. (magna cum laude) from the Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University. Upon completing her studies, she clerked at the Israeli Supreme Court under the late Chief Justice (ret.) Miriam Naor, and later served as a legal assistant to Chief Justice (ret.) Esther Hayut.

Her academic work combines legal, political, and historical analysis. Her master’s thesis, supervised by Prof. Daphne Barak-Erez, examined regulatory regimes governing essential goods and rent during Israel’s formative years from an interdisciplinary perspective. Her doctoral dissertation, completed at the Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University, focused on the political and legal thought of Menachem Begin, under the supervision of Prof. Daphne Barak-Erez and Prof. Aryeh Naor.

Following her Ph.D., she was a postdoctoral fellow at the Minerva Center for the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions at the University of Haifa, under the supervision of the late Prof. Gad Barzilai, and subsequently a Kreitman Fellow at the Ben-Gurion Research Institute.

Her research focuses on the intersections of political thought, legal theory, and history, with particular attention to the Israeli right, states of emergency, and the relationship between law and political practice.
