The goal of the Center is to nurture quality, scientific research in family and primary care medicine on the local, national and international levels. It aims to contribute to the improvement of the health in the community, by providing relevant, unavailable data on the health problems and needs of the population.
Since its inception in 1996, the Center has been an integral component of BGU’s Faculty of Health Sciences, driving community health research in fulfillment of the Faculty’s founding mission to (1) champion a holistic approach in addressing the Negev’s unique healthcare challenges and (2) transform the region’s healthcare landscape by strengthening and reimagining primary care medicine for its diverse populations.
The Center was founded by Prof. Pesach Shvartzman z”l, a visionary leader in family and palliative medicine, whose legacy continues to shape its mission.
