The Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) - Regional Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research (RADAR) Center conducts research, education and training about relevant health and well-being issues including substance misuse. The United States National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has given recognition and award to the RADAR Center for its "contributions to scientific diplomacy through outstanding efforts in international collaborative research."
Established in 1996, the BGU - RADAR Center works with international organizations and agencies including NIDA, US Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), US Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Initiative (UNICRI), Israel Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health, Education, and Social Affairs/Services, and universities world-wide.
The RADAR Center includes "Negev Project Vision" that addresses quality of life among older adults and people with special needs. This service and research initiative, with student scholarship support, has received international recognition and award. In cooperation with the National Health Service "Kupat Holim Clalit", more than 40,000 people have received RADAR Center-Negev Project Vision assistance.
