Climate and Particulate Matter Contributions to CHF Decompensation
This study, conducted as the doctoral thesis of Roni Gat Wormser, examined the effect of air pollution on hospital admissions for congestive heart failure (CHF) decompensation and developed a model to predict individual risk under specific environmental conditions. The analysis included all adult CHF admissions to seven Clalit hospitals between 2000 and 2016, along with detailed patient characteristics, comorbidities, and clinical data. Air pollution and temperature exposure were estimated using satellite-based models combining aerosol optical depth, land-use regression, and meteorological data at 1×1 km resolution. The study aimed to integrate environmental and personal factors to improve prediction of CHF exacerbations.
