The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR), affiliated to the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), are acknowledged leaders in desert studies, widely respected in the international scientific community for the quality and creativity of their research and training programs. In light of this global reputation and the worldwide need for expertise in the study of drylands, BGU and the Blaustein Institutes have established the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies, which offers programs leading to Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Desert Studies, and Hydrology & Water Technologies. These multi-disciplinary research areas have emerged in response to the lack of science-based responses to the urgent needs of humanity.

The faculty includes scientists from the BIDR and leading scholars from the international community. The innovative, multidisciplinary programs are structured to provide an integrated approach, offering students exceptional opportunities to pursue a combination of basic and applied research. Students are exposed to a wide range of disciplines complementary to their major areas of specialization. Graduates are qualified to carry out basic and applied research, take responsible positions in the management of drylands and lead the battle to combat desertification.

In the sixth decade of its existence, Israel has positioned itself as a highly developed industrial country and a world leader in advanced technology and high-tech innovations. Clearly, Israel must train its new generation of qualified managers - managers who will be able to maintain and further develop the country's scientific and technological advantages by introducing highly sophisticated management strategies that will fully exploit its potential.

The growing demand for well-trained, competent, and creative managers prompted Ben-Gurion University to establish The Faculty of Management. Comprising five departments, The Faculty attracts large numbers of highly qualified applicants. Student selection is competitive, with only a small percentage of candidates being accepted each year. Approximately 2,500 students, mainly graduate students, are presently enrolled in the Faculty of Management.

• Executive Programs

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts degree in the Departments of Behavioral Sciences, Bible and Ancient Near-Eastern Studies, Hebrew Language, Hebrew Literature, History, and Philosophy.

Admission Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences from an accredited
  ** institution of higher aducation recognized by the University.
• minimum grade point average of 75 or its equivalent is required by
  ** the Faculty. Each Department, however, may impose higher grade point averages.
• knowledge of the Hebrew language. The language of instruction at the
  ** Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is Hebrew; thus, students should have
  ** a sufficient knowledge to participate in graduate level studies.
• Proficiency test in English as a foreign language.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences incorporates seven different departments:

The Faculty has a reputation for excellence in research. A broad spectrum of research is undertaken-both theoreticl and experimental, basic and applied-having direct relevance to the development of the Negev, Israel's southern desert area.

The Faculty of Natural Science constantly endeavors to increase the number and quality of its students, to continually develop areas of study in order to keep pace with the demands of society, and to maintain the excellence of its teaching. In addition, the Faculty encourages interaction with the community by attempting to strengthen its ties with industry and the national educational system. Contacts and cooperative efforts with research institutions in the country and abroad are constantly increasing. The Faculty provides a wide range of services to local schools and science- based industrries, and, in so doing, not only trains sorly-needed professionals, but also helps push back the frontiers of the desert while advancing those of science.
