Dr. Liron David
Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences

My life before joining BGU:
I was born in the beautiful city of Haifa and graduated high school at the Alliance School, Haifa. I earned my bachelor’s degree with honors in the molecular biochemistry track at the Technion. Following that, I pursued a combined master’s and doctoral program in the Faculty of Chemistry at the Technion. I did postdoctoral research at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
Why BGU?
I chose to join BGU because of its warm and supportive atmosphere, particularly within the Department of Life Sciences, which I have now joined. Additionally, the University offers extensive resources in my research field, enabling me to conduct innovative and groundbreaking research.
My research:
I investigate key immune system proteins involved in inflammatory processes. These processes are triggered by the recognition of foreign elements in the body and, when malfunctioning, can lead to cancer and other diseases. My research combines structural biology, biochemistry, and cell biology to unravel the mechanisms of these proteins and pathways, forming the foundation for developing targeted therapies and treatments for patients.
An insight from my research:
In research, you know your starting point, but you never know where the journey will take you or what exciting discoveries lie ahead. That’s what challenges and excites me the most about my work.
Something that doesn't appear on my CV:
I’m an art enthusiast and love to paint.
A source of inspiration:
My dear mother, my lifelong mentor. There’s no doubt that without her incredible support and guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
When I grow up...
As a child, I wanted to be a pediatrician. Today, I’d say I aspire to be a groundbreaking researcher because I truly love science and research.
If I weren’t a researcher, I’d be...
Probably in a related field, like engineering or computer science.
