Our research

Building on the versatile and magnificent world of green microalgae.

We focus on the chloroplast, the plant’s major energy producer, and seek to advance our mechanistic understanding of the biogenesis and protein quality control of this critical plant organelle in steady-state and stress conditions. Our uniqueness is in the toolkit. In order to gain true mechanistic understanding, we develop clever genetic

About me/the team

The brain is one of nature's most complex dynamic systems. Understanding its dynamics is central to understanding the mind itself.

My research focuses on uncovering the fundamental principles that govern brain dynamics and their relationship to brain function. Rather than emerging from isolated regions acting independently, brain function arises from the continuous interactions among billions of neurons. The brain's ability to maintain a delicate balance between stability and flexibility underlies perception, learning, and consciousness. When this balance is disrupted, it can give rise to altered states of consciousness, such as anesthesia and psychedelic experiences, or contribute to neurological and psychiatric disorders, including epilepsy and schizophrenia.

At the Computational Psychiatry and Neurotechnology Lab, we combine neuroscience, physics, artificial intelligence, and engineering to study the brain across multiple scales and uncover the dynamical principles that enable it to remain both stable and flexible. Our research spans computational modeling, EEG analysis, machine learning and deep learning, wearable neurotechnology, and clinical neuroscience, bridging fundamental discoveries with technologies that improve neurological and psychiatric care.

By uncovering these principles, we aim to deepen our understanding of the brain while translating our discoveries into neurotechnologies that improve the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
