Prof. Ofer Hadar is a Full Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. His research lies at the intersection of image and video processing, multimedia communication systems, and artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on advanced video compression and computer vision in challenging real-world environments.
Prof. Hadar leads research on AI-driven visual technologies, including deep-learning methods for image and video compression, super-resolution for remote sensing imagery, and robust computer vision systems operating under adverse conditions. His work addresses both the fundamental theory of visual signal processing and its applications in areas such as autonomous systems, satellite imaging, tele-medicine, precision agriculture, and cybersecurity of visual data.
Over the past two decades, Prof. Hadar has contributed to the development of modern multimedia communication technologies, including scalable video coding, video streaming over communication networks, and intelligent analysis of encrypted video traffic. More recently, his research has expanded toward deep neural networks and multimodal AI models for advanced visual understanding.
At Ben-Gurion University, Prof. Hadar served as Head of the Department of Communication Systems Engineering (2012–2018) and has supervised numerous Ph.D. and M.Sc. students working on next-generation multimedia technologies. He has led multiple competitive research projects supported by national agencies and industry partners.
Prof. Hadar collaborates extensively with international research groups and industry, contributing to the advancement of intelligent multimedia systems that bridge communication networks, computer vision, and artificial intelligence.
