Research Mission

At the Biopsychosocial Development Lab, our research focuses on understanding how early life stress shapes children's adjustment across various domains of functioning in early childhood, including attention skills, executive function, self-regulation and social competence. We specifically aim to elucidate the biological and environmental processes that mitigate the negative implications of early life stress on children’s adaptation over time.

The research conducted at our lab lies at the intersection of social, emotional, cognitive and biological processes in development. As such, we employ a multi-method approach, including clinical assessments and self-report measures of psychopathology, observational assessments of family processes, biological measures of autonomic physiological activity (ECG), and electroencephalogram (EEG) methods. In addition, we use a multi-faceted approach to addressing developmental research questions, leveraging longitudinal methods, experimental designs, and animal models.
