Smart Peptide Carriers: Precision Gene Modulation in Cells, Insects, and Crustaceans
Our lab explores molecular mechanisms and delivery platforms that control gene expression, with a strong focus on aquaculture and biomedical applications. We engineer peptide and protein-based carriers that transport dsRNA and other regulatory nucleic acids into targeted cells and into crustacean and insect tissues to achieve precise gene silencing. A key research direction is the development of lipoprotein-derived peptides for transovarial delivery, enabling efficient, heritable gene knockdown in crustaceans and other oviparous organisms. By integrating detailed studies of post-translational modifications with the design of competent delivery vectors, the lab aims to establish versatile platforms for safe, targeted gene modulation in cells and tissues of both vertebrates and invertebrates, paving the way for novel targeted therapies, environmentally responsible pest management, and green aquaculture solutions.
