Who We Are

The Board of Governors (BoG) of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) serves as a cornerstone of the University's leadership and governance.

Comprising distinguished leaders, philanthropists, and visionaries from around the globe, the BoG plays a vital role in shaping the University's strategic direction, fostering academic excellence, and strengthening its connection with supporters worldwide.

Leadership and Structure

The BoG is chaired by Lloyd Goldman, a highly esteemed leader with a deep commitment to BGU’s vision. Working alongside the University’s President, Prof. Daniel Chamovitz, and other senior leadership, the BoG oversees the institution’s major policies, fundraising efforts, and strategic initiatives.

The Board of Governors is comprised of Israeli and international members from diverse backgrounds, including Academia, business, public service, and culture, reflecting the University's values of inclusivity and innovation.

It is the highest authority of the University. It is a self-governing body that acts within the powers and authorities conferred upon it under the University Constitution including:

Approving amendments to the Constitution
Approving the University's annual budgets
Coordinating the operations of Friends Associations of the University in Israel and abroad
Approving a recommendation of the search committee for the appointment of the Chairperson of the Board of Governors and to appoint him or her
Removing the Chairperson of the Board of Governors if needed
Electing deputy chairpersons and vice chairpersons
Ratifying the election of the President

Expectations from a Board member:

Be active in their local Friends Association which can be expressed in multiple ways: by attending events, helping organize events and widening the network of friends and supporters.
A member is nominated for a term of office of 3-years. Upon completion of a term of office, the member will continue to serve during the annual meeting where he can choose to retire or be reappointed.
Attend the Annual Board of Governors Meeting on the Family Marcus Campus in Beer Sheva, which takes place in May. A member is expected to attend the annual meeting at least once in a 3-year term of office.
Donate a minimum amount over the three preceding years or introduce BGU to new donors with substantial capacity to support BGU’s programs or to public figures who can advance BGU’s standing.

Annual Meeting

Each year, the Board of Governors convenes on the BGU campus in Beer-Sheva. This gathering provides an opportunity to:

Celebrate achievements and milestones.
Discuss and approve strategic plans.
Honor outstanding contributions by members of the University and the community.

The annual meeting is a highlight of BGU’s calendar, featuring cultural events, lectures, and visits to university projects that showcase its impact.
