Dr. David Codish
Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, Faculty of Engineering Sciences
My life before BGU:
I was born in Wisconsin, USA, and finished high school at the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva in Beer-Sheva. I completed a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and management at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. After that, I worked for 4 years as a product manager at a startup and 12 years in information systems management positions at Intel. I completed my master's and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering and management at BGU as well.
My research:
I research and the integration of gamification in teaching and learning. I also use it on a daily basis with college and high school students, and can see the great impact it has.
An insight from my research:
When working with high school math students, I saw how gamification was able to successfully double the number of students who graduated with 5 matriculation units.
Something that doesn't appear on my CV:
I have my own separate business, and I am also a local council member in Meitar, where I am responsible for education.
A source of inspiration:
Tom Peters. I read his books many, many years ago and since then I believe that if you do something, it had better be Wow! Otherwise there is no point in doing it.
If I wasn't a researcher, I would...
teach mathematics
