Digisex
This entry critically examines digital sex, highlighting how digital technologies have transformed human sexuality by facilitating new forms of sexual interaction beyond physical proximity. While the field is established and employs four main theoretical frameworks – feminist and queer studies, platform-mediated labor, post-structuralism, and new materialism – the interactive and practical dimensions of digisexual encounters are under-theorized. Existing research often centers on Americo-European contexts and specific digital practices, leaving gaps in understanding digisex in diverse socio-cultural settings. This underscores the need for further exploration into the nuanced realities of digisexual interactions beyond sexual identities.
