Our research
Soft matter in external fields
Our group works on the theory of soft-matter systems: liquids, gels, colloids, membranes, polymers, and liquid
crystals. We specialize at modeling phase transitions and propagating
waves, driven by electric or magnetic fields or other forces. We focus
on the meso-scale and look at general, non-chemical aspects.
In recent years, we worked on:
Equilibrium phenomena:

Phase transitions in liquid mixtures in spatially nonuniform forces
- Nucleation around a charged core article
- Orientational transitions and crystallization in spheroidal colloids near charged surfaces
- Interfacial phenomena in liquids containing salt
Flow phenomena:
- Electrolubrication in liquid mixtures flowing near charged surfaces
- Hall effect and in flowing electrolytes in magnetic fields
- Interfacial instabilities and pattern formation in complex fluids in electric fields
- Epidemiological model for virus spread based on reaction-diffusion
like dynamics
