Cybersecurity Enhancement for Wireless Networks Using Aerial Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces

This paper examines the deployment of Aerial Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (ARIS) on drones to bolster wireless communication in environments affected by jamming due to cyber attacks. We evaluate the efficacy of ARIS-assisted communication systems, particularly in scenarios where traditional line-of-sight (LOS) paths are obstructed, a frequent occurrence in urban areas and dynamic user environments. Through simulation, we highlight the substantial advantages of employing ARIS, which can dynamically adjust the phase of reflected signals to optimize the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). Our findings reveal that deploying ARIS on drones significantly enhances communication reliability and efficiency, demonstrating notable improvements in SIR. This underscores the potential of ARIS to sustain robust communication in challenging conditions, making it a vital technology for resilient wireless networks in urban settings and mobile scenarios with frequent LOS disruptions due to interference and cyber jamming.
