Over the past seven decades, European Integration Studies (EIS) has evolved from a niche regional academic sub-discipline into a distinctive and internationally recognized field of scholarly inquiry in its own right. What began as a regionally focused examination of post-war European cooperation has evolved into a vibrant global discipline that attracts scholars from diverse intellectual traditions, employs varied methodological frameworks, and generates insights that extend far beyond Europe’s borders. This internationalisation process represents more than simple geographical enlargement; it constitutes a fundamental shift in how we conceptualise, study, and understand regional integration as a phenomenon of global significance.
