Acoustic analysis by spherical microphone array with optimal beamforming

Spatial acoustic analysis is employed in room acoustics studies, noise source characterization, and other applications. Spherical microphone arrays are particularly useful for spatial acoustic analysis because they offer three-dimensional analysis capabilities. Recently, various array processing methods for spherical microphone arrays have been developed. In particular, optimal beamforming methods may offer improved performance in realistic sound fields, facilitating spatial analysis with improved spatial resolution, reduced noise, and more accurate estimation of arrival directions. This paper presents recent results in optimal spherical array processing, from regular and Dolph-Chebyshev beamforming to subspace methods, presenting examples of acoustic analysis for sound field measured in an auditorium.
