DDD - Drylands, Deserts & Desertification Conference
Since 2006, the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research of Ben Gurion University of the Negev has hosted the conference on Drylands, Deserts and Desertification. The goals of each conference are scientific and policy orientated: to try and promote understanding and solutions for the problems caused by the degradation of drylands for the international community. The conference is attended by policy makers, aid workers and scientists and includes lectures, site visits and interdisciplinary workshops. Attendees to the conference have included leading scientists and policymakers from both Western countries and from the developing countries most affected by desertification.
In 2022, the conference was attended by over 800 people with around 90 international and an additional 160 Israeli based speakers from universities, NGO’s, government bodies and corporations. We were especially excited to have 4 lecturers from Morocco and another from the United Arab Emirates as it is important for us to establish cooperation with our neighboring countries. We are also gratified that since the 2010 conference, the event has been attended by the Executive Secretary of the UNCCD or a senior representative thereof, as well as several senior UN officials working in the field.
Materials, summaries and recordings of previous conference held in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2022 can be found on the “Previous Conferences” page on the website.
