The Center promotes research and education on the social, economic, and health-related aspects of aging, with a focus on quality of life and subjective well-being. It develops innovative research tools and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as gerontology, medicine, biology, sociology, and psychology. Israel’s older adult population is uniquely diverse—comprising immigrants from over a hundred countries, Holocaust survivors, and native-born Jews and Arabs—making culturally informed research vital for shaping evidence-based policies and interventions. Established in 2000 at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and affiliated with Soroka University Medical Center, the Center provides a multidisciplinary environment that encourages collaboration and advances knowledge to enhance the well-being of older adults.
The CMRA also houses ILC-Israel, a member of the International Longevity Center Global Alliance (ILC-GA). The CMRA has been awarded membership to the Global Ageing Research Network (GARN) of International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics and has been designated one of the network’s Collaborating Centers.
