Niv Betsalel
Niv holds a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and currently pursuing his Ph.D., focusing on the environmental implications of plastic materials. His research explores VOC emissions from plastics and the incorporation of plastic waste into concrete, aiming to support sustainable construction practices and improve air quality.
Julius Bamah
Mr. Julius Bamah received his B.Sc. in Renewable Natural Resources from the University for Development Studies, Ghana (2019), and his M.Sc. in Remote Sensing from Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel (2022). Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Israel focusing on the application of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) for monitoring urban vegetation.
Alexander Takele Muleta
Alexander Takele Muleta received his B.Sc. degree in Geomatics Engineering and M.Sc. degree in Geo-Informatics from the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Adama Science and Technology University, in 2016 and 2019, respectively. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. His research interests include high-resolution multi-temporal and multi-sensor image classification and analysis, remote sensing of urban vegetation, carbon sequestration estimation and mapping, and machine learning.
Ido Schwartz
Ido holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry, with a focus on physical chemistry and catalysis. During his studies, he worked for five years at Intel, where he specialized in statistical process control and quality analysis—developing strong data analysis skills in a demanding industrial setting. He is currently pursuing a data science certification, aiming to bridge scientific research and data-driven methodologies.
Salit Azoulay Kochavi
Salit Azoulay Kochavi is a Ph.D. student in Environmental and Civil Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where she also completed Environmental Engineering studies in 2021. She holds an M.H.A. from BGU and a B.Sc. in Biology from Tel Aviv University. Since 2001, she has held key roles in quality, safety, and risk management, including as Quality Manager of the National Laboratory (2001–2025) and currently overseeing quality and safety for public health laboratories. Her research examines indoor air quality exposure among schoolchildren to promote healthier learning environments.
Shirley Bushner
Shirley received her M.Sc. in Urban and Regional Planning from the Technion and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Her research focuses on the relationship between urban form and the ecological services of green infrastructure, using GIS and remote sensing. She brings professional experience in environmental planning, spatial analysis, and sustainability policy.
M.Sc. students
Nadav Yehuda Yefet
Nadav Yehuda Yefet is a graduate researcher in the Meitar Excellence Program, focusing on sustainable innovation in construction. He earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering with distinction (average 95) and received the Rector’s and Department Head’s Awards. His master’s research, supervised by Dr. Oz Kira, addresses concrete recycling to reduce construction’s environmental impact. With practical experience in structural design, Nadav combines academic insight with real-world application. He also serves in a technological unit of the Intelligence Corps reserves and volunteers with “Latet,” reflecting his commitment to responsible engineering and social impact.
Sanjana Sarode
Sanjana Sarode completed her Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from BESTIU, India. Currently, she is pursuing a Master's degree in Agriculture and Biotechnology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Her research focuses on chemical ecology and molecular biology, specifically examining plant-insect interactions. She is investigating the role of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in pepper plants infested with aphid-transmitted viruses, exploring how these compounds influence aphid behavior and plant defense mechanisms. This research is aimed at understanding the ecological roles of these interactions and their molecular mechanisms
Shachar Rozenblat
Shachar Rozenblat holds a B.Sc. in Soil and Water Sciences from the Faculty of Agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2020). He is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Environmental Engineering at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where his research explores urban agriculture, green roofs, renewable energy, and their environmental impacts.
Alongside his academic work, he has been working for the past four years as a Soil Conservation and drainage Planner at the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
