Content Editing Policy

Content Policy – English Version

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the content on the University’s website is accurate, up-to-date, accessible, and clear, and that it faithfully reflects the University’s values and the official information produced by its internal systems. The policy defines the sources of information, the processes used to create and review content, and the responsibilities for updating and maintaining it.

Our goal is to ensure that every visitor to our website — whether prospective students, applicants, researchers, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, or partners — receives reliable, clear, and current information that reflects the University’s values and its commitment to its community.

This policy applies to the main website of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, available at www.bgu.ac.il.

Other websites and systems operating under the broader bgu.ac.il domain are managed independently and are therefore not covered by this policy.

Website Structure and Content Scope

The University website includes different areas intended for diverse audiences:

  • Prospective Students Website (bgu.ac.il/welcome)

  • Academic and Research Unit Pages

  • General Information about the University

  • Internal Portals for Students and Staff

The website and its content are managed by the Website and Content Unit within the Marketing Division, in collaboration with academic and administrative units. The team consists of professional content editors with experience in editing, user experience, and marketing, working in accordance with University guidelines and in coordination with authorized stakeholders. The team engages in ongoing learning and professional development.

Content Sources and Review Process

Content on the website is original and created within the University. No sponsored or commercial content is published unless explicitly stated (for example, when an event is held in collaboration with external partners, this will be indicated).

Content on the main pages is written and maintained by professional content editors from the Marketing, Publications, and Communications units. Academic and administrative unit content, as well as research center sites and personal academic pages, is written and maintained by content editors across the University, in coordination with the central web team.

All content is based on official internal sources and approved by the relevant authorized academic and administrative personnel. Testimonials, quotes, and statements from students and alumni reflect their authentic personal experiences.

All content published on the website is created, reviewed, and edited under human supervision. Artificial intelligence tools may be used as supportive tools only and do not replace professional judgment. No raw or unreviewed AI-generated content is published on the website.

Certain information — particularly admissions data and study program details — is automatically fed from internal University systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.

These systems are the official and authoritative source for the following data:

  • Admissions requirements (matriculation, psychometric scores, etc.) shown on the Prospective Students website

  • Registration status of academic programs

  • Course lists displayed for academic programs

Additionally, they provide:

  • Departmental and unit affiliations of University staff

  • Academic ranks of faculty members

  • University email addresses and phone numbers

  • Academic publications of senior faculty (via the University’s CRIS system)

In the event of any discrepancy between the website and official systems, the information in the official systems takes precedence.

Accuracy and Ongoing Updates

We are committed to publishing accurate and current information. Data such as admissions requirements, tuition, scholarships, and key dates is reviewed and updated regularly, particularly prior to new enrollment cycles. Static content is also reviewed periodically by the relevant units.

Language and Accessibility

We aim to write in language that is:

  • Clear – accessible, concise, and easy to understand

  • Inclusive – gender-neutral and culturally sensitive

  • Accessible – compliant with Israeli and international accessibility standards and screen reader–friendly

Most content is available in Hebrew, with selected sections also available in English and Arabic.

We apply up-to-date SEO practices, including proper tagging, structured headings, and user-friendly URLs. We provide University-wide content editing guidelines covering accessibility, image descriptions, heading hierarchy, and editorial standards.

See the University’s Accessibility Statement here.
See the University’s Privacy Policy here.

Images and Media

Visual content on the website reflects real campus life. Images are either taken by University photographers or licensed appropriately. We avoid generic stock imagery whenever possible. The use of images containing people complies with University policies and campus photography guidelines.

Artificial intelligence tools may be used for image enhancement or atmosphere-only visuals, and not for depicting real individuals without authorization.

Content Guidelines by Area

Prospective Students Website

Content is developed collaboratively between the central website team and academic departments, and includes:

  • Information on study programs

  • Admissions and registration details

  • Open Day announcements

  • Student life blog content

System-based data is automatically updated. Editorial and marketing content is written in a consistent tone aligned with University messaging.

Academic and Research Content

Researcher and research center pages are maintained by academic units. Significant achievements may receive additional visibility on the main site or News section.

Internal Portals

Portals for students, faculty, and staff are managed according to dedicated content guidelines tailored to each audience.

Feedback and Corrections

We welcome comments, corrections, and suggestions for improvement.
You may contact us via the “Contact Us” form or reach out to the relevant University unit.
Requests to correct official information are reviewed with the authorized governing source.
