Call for Nominations: The Sonnenfeldt Prize for Climate Literature - June 2026

The Goldman Sonnenfeldt School of Sustainability and Climate Change, is pleased to announce the launch of the Michael Sonnenfeldt Prize for Climate Literature, an international award honoring outstanding works of literature that engage with climate change, ecology, and the urgent cultural questions they raise.

About the Prize

The Prize recognizes exceptional literary works that deepen public understanding of environmental challenges, inspire action, and foster global dialogue. Awarded annually, the Prize alternates between works published in English (including translations, except for translations from Hebrew) and works published in Hebrew (including translations into Hebrew). Each year, a different literary genre – such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or children’s literature– will be featured.

Submissions are invited from authors, publishers, literary agents, and recognized literary institutions.

Books may be submitted in digital format, and physical copies may also be submitted for review by the selection committee.

Each nomination must include:

  1. Completed nomination form with all required details.
  2. Synopsis: a concise summary (up to 500 words) highlighting the book's main themes and relevance to climate change.
  3. Author biography: including professional background, notable works, and relevant achievements.

Publication details: title, publisher, year of publication, and ISBN.

The Prizes will be awarded at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev during the University’s Board of Governors meeting, in the presence of the University President, the Prize's Chair, committee members, and distinguished guests.

  • Final decision & award ceremony: May 2027
