The Human Spirit Track for the School of Medicine
Narrative Medicine and Compassion
Medicine is, first and foremost, a human encounter. This pathway is carefully and thoughtfully tailored to the unique nature of clinical training. It provides students with the tools to develop sensitivity to human complexity, a deep understanding of the patient's personal narrative, true compassion, and the capacity to navigate the most challenging ethical dilemmas of modern medicine.
Track Overview
Program Scope
12 structured credits integrated as an inseparable part of the degree. The program is designed to shape well-rounded, thoughtful, and empathetic physicians who view the human mind and body as one interconnected whole.
Foundational Course (2 credits)
Participation in the panoramic course "And I Will Put a Spirit Within You." This course bridges medical-technological advancements, artificial intelligence, and the humanities, shifting the focus from the technical question of "how to treat" to the deeper ethical question of "should it be done, and in what manner
Course Focus

Core Courses (8 credits): Medical Ethics; Medicine in the Reflection of the Holocaust; A Literary Journey; and Art and Observation (Visual Thinking Strategies - VTS).

Elective Courses (4 credits): A choice of two courses from a selection including: A Cinematic Journey; Diagnosis; Mindfulness and Buddhism; or Moral Philosophy.
