יעל השילוני-דולב היא פרופסורית מן המניין במחלקה לסוציולוגיה ואנתרופולוגיה באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון. כיהנה כיועצת נשיא האוניברסיטה להוגנות מגדרית (2023-2025), כנשיאה משותפת של האגודה להיסטוריה, פילוסופיה וסוציולוגיה של המדע (בין השנים 2018?2021), כחברת המועצה הלאומית לביואתיקה (2013-2021), וכחברת ועדת היגוי ושיפוט לקידום הוגנות מגדרית במל"ג. בנוסף, היא חברת הוועדה היוזמת של עמותת בשער.
השילוני-דולב היא חוקרת מובילה העוסקת בממשק שבין סוציולוגיה, מגדר, משפחה, ביו-אתיקה, בריאות וחולי, וטכנולוגיות פריון. מחקריה בנושאים כמו הפלת עוברים על רקע בריאותי ובחירת מין הילוד (הפלות סלקטיביות), גיל ופריון, הקפאת ביציות והולדה לאחר המוות בישראל ובגרמניה, זכו לתהודה בינלאומית ופורסמו במיטב כתבי העת בישראל ומחוצה לה. לאחרונה ערכה ביחד עם שרון אורשלימי את האסופה: "גוף משלך: רפואה, מין ומגדר" בהוצאת למדא, האו"פ 2025.
