The incidental user
The human computer interaction (HCI) community needs to address the situation of an increased number of incidental users as compared to conventional users. Incidental users are affected by systems and those who directly interact with them and are found to have a considerable interest in the information presented by the system. The incidental user is expected to be a customer evaluating various mortgage plans, bank tellers, pilots setting parameters of an autopilot system, or customers using ATM machines. Designing systems as per incidental users and providing information to reassure them of problem-free experience is expected to reduce unpleasant feeling, insecurity, and anxiety. A cooperation between primary user and incidental user includes interaction and control and setting.
