About
Prof. Ofer Azar received his Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University. He is now a Full Professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, where he serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration and holds the Nat Holman Chair in Sport Research. Prof. Azar's main research areas include behavioral economics, experimental economics, decision making, sports, consumer behavior, economic psychology, competitive strategy, industrial organization and certain aspects of academic publishing (the review process and measuring academic impact). Some specific areas to which Prof. Azar has contributed include tipping and social norms more generally, the relative thinking bias of consumers, and decision making in basketball and soccer. Prof. Azar appeared in the top 2% list of worldwide scientists in Elsevier-Stanford ranking in various years (2020, 2021, 2023, 2024); in 2024 with a ranking of top 0.13%. In a worldwide ranking of young economists, Prof. Azar was ranked 69th.
