About

Aviad Moreno is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Associate Professor) at the Ben-Gurion Institute for the Study of Israel and Zionism at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His research focuses on migration studies, with particular attention to Jewish migration from Muslim countries examined through global and comparative perspectives, alongside emerging scholarship on Israeli migration. In 2021, Moreno founded the Communities and Mobilities research hub at the Azrieli Center for Israel Studies (MALI) at Ben-Gurion University, which addresses these themes. He serves, among other roles, on the content committee of the ANU Museum of the Jewish People, as an external member of the Royal Spanish Academy, and as a lead of theDiversifying the Israeli Diaspora research group at Brandeis University. Previously, he was part of the development team of the ?Historical Jewish Press? digitization project, and he has held research fellowships at the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, Tel Aviv University, the University of Florida, and Brandeis University. His work has been recognized with several fellowships and awards, including the Alon Fellowship (Israeli Council for Higher Education), the Toldano Prize, the Ben-Halpern Prize (Association for Israel Studies), the Gad Barzilai Prize (AIS), and the Distinguished Early Career Award from the Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry. His books have also received significant recognition, including the National Jewish Book Award, the Latin American Jewish Studies Association (LAJSA) Book Award, the Edith and Eric Siday Grant for Book Publication, and the Mifal HaPais grant for Hebrew-language books.
