New Appointment: Prof. Halleli Pinson - Ombudsman for Sexual Harassment at BGU

In recent years, Prof. Pinson has spearheaded efforts to reform the university’s sexual harassment prevention policy, contributing to the establishment of a professional tribunal to handle such complaints.

Standing by Your Side: Prof. Halleli Pinson, a faculty member at the School of Education, has been appointed as the Ombudsman for Sexual Harassment at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and will assume her role on August 1st, 2024. She succeeds the outgoing ombudsman, Prof. Efrat Huss, who has completed her tenure.

In recent years, Prof. Pinson, together with representatives from the senior academic staff, junior staff, workers' council, and student association, has promoted a revision of the university’s sexual harassment prevention policy. As part of this effort, she played a key role in establishing a professional tribunal to address complaints of sexual harassment.

Prof. Pinson’s academic background is in the political sociology of education, and she researches issues concerning the roles of education and schools in an era of global change. One of her main research topics is gender patterns for participation in scientific subjects in high school. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science and education from Tel Aviv University, and completed her master's and doctoral degrees in the sociology of education at the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge in England.

In addition to her achievements in teaching and international recognition in research, Prof. Pinson brings to her new role a wealth of experience in matters close to her heart. She is a co-founder of the Forum for Gender Equity in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Ben-Gurion University and has worked to achieve gender balance in the faculty committees. From 2021 to 2023, Prof. Pinson led numerous initiatives to promote gender fairness in her capacity as the University President's Advisor on Gender Equity.
