Chromatic living cell sensors

We have constructed new chemically-engineered cells through attachment of chromatic PDA nano-patches onto the plasma membrane. The PDA patches undergo blue-red transitions and fluorescence emission induced by surface interactions that give rise to structural and dynamical modifications of the plasma membrane. These hybrids facilitate visualization and investigation of surface processes and membrane interactions in living cells.
