The SPM uses a flat scanner, which allows a free optical path. This fact, in turn allows integration with two optical microscopes (above and beneath).

Data Sheet

Our setup includes two Zeiss AxioTech Vario microscopes, mounted head-on and sandwiching the Nanonics flat scanner between them.

The system is also equipped with fluorescence capabilities, i.e. mercury lamp and filter sliders.

System Overview

The "sandwich" looks like this:
For NSOM capabilities, the system is equipped with an EG&G APD (SPCM-AQ) photon counting module.

Illumination is achieved with the Ar-ion or Mira lasers described on the relevant pages

APD Tutorial

Nano-fountain Pen (NFP) uses a hollow capillary drawn in to a sharp tip, with an aperture of ~ 100 nm. The nanopipette thus manufactured is mounted as the probe of the AFM and controlled by it. When the pipette is filled with a solution, it advances up to the tip of the pipette, however only flows out upon contact with a surface. Thus, it is possible to deliver very small amounts of solution in very precise locations.
