Generalized Rayleigh-Lamb wave propagation in finitely deformed dielectric elastomers

Gal Shmuel, Massimiliano Gei, Gal Debotton
The propagation of elastic and electric waves in soft dielectric elastomer plates is investigated. We consider incremental fields superimposed on a pre-loaded finitely stretched layer. Three different loading paths which result in the aforementioned deformation are accounted for. The dispersion relation between the waves speed of propagation and lengths is evaluated by satisfying the corresponding coupled equations of incremental electroelastodynamics along with the pertained boundary conditions. Subsequently, numerical examples for the fundamental branches are evaluated, demonstrating the dependency of the propagation velocity on the bias fields. The foregoing results reveal a stabilizing effect of the pre-stretch, in agreement with experimental data. Our findings hints at the possibility of a method for controlling the propagation velocity, as well as filtering particular frequencies by a suitable choice of the electrostatic bias field.
