About the Division of Surgery
Head: Gilbert Sebbag, M.D.
The Division encompasses the entire spectrum of surgical professions, including vascular, reconstructive, open-heart, pediatric and neurological surgery. The Division also serves as a dedicated trauma center for the Negev region, serving individuals injured in accidents and terrorist attacks. The largest of the Division’s 11 departments and subdivisions are General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery. The Division performs more than 24,000 surgeries annually, including complex procedures in all areas.
As part of its community outreach, the Division operates an innovative Breast Health Center that offers early screening and special educational programs for Bedouin women. Many Bedouin children suffering from surgically treatable congenital malformations due to intermarriage are treated in the Pediatric Surgery Department.
