The Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Medicine (B.EMS) program at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is a unique academic track that combines professional paramedic training with advanced academic studies.

Certified paramedics are senior professionals in the emergency medical system, qualified to provide critical primary care in medical emergencies. Their role is especially crucial when the time required to transport a patient to a medical center is a decisive factor.

According to the Ministry of Health guidelines, paramedics in Israel are authorized to perform a variety of complex medical procedures that were previously reserved for physicians. These include:

  • Performing advanced resuscitation procedures and cardiac monitoring.
  • Administering intravenous medications with immediate effects.
  • Conducting invasive procedures, such as pacemaker implantation and chest tube placement.

The comprehensive academic training equips paramedics with the professional and theoretical knowledge required to fulfill their complex role while maintaining the highest standards of medical care in both routine and emergency situations.
