About the Program
The Department of Materials Engineering offers graduate programs leading to M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees in Materials Engineering.
The research is led by an outstanding team of faculty members – all are leading researchers in their areas. The Department provides access to exceptional facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. The research areas encompass both practical and theoretical aspects of materials engineering.
The Department encourages interdisciplinary research, and part of the research work can be carried out in cooperation with specialist researchers from other disciplines, such as Physics, Chemistry, Electro-optical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The aim of the M.Sc. program in Materials Engineering is to provide students with expertise and advanced knowledge in their selected field of specialization. M.Sc. students carry out advanced research supervised by an expert faculty member. Students graduating with a M.Sc. degree are qualified for senior R&D positions in industry, and can
continue towards Ph.D. studies. In particular, M.Sc. studies can be extended to Ph.D. studies in a combined track such that the thesis exam serves also as the Ph.D. candidacy exam.
The M.Sc. program is a two year thesis (research) track program.
Research fields:
- Metals
- Ceramic-metal composites
- Polymers
- Electronic materials
- Thermoelectric materials
- Semiconductor materials and devices
- Biomaterials
- Nanomaterials
- Magnetic materials
- Modern methods of materials characterization
