Available positions in our group

Two post-doctoral positions are available in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in the group  of Prof. Yoav Tsori. The positions are funded by the European Research Council Starting Grant.

Electric field gradients alter the phase behavior of liquid mixtures and modify the coexistence between liquid and vapor in pure materials. Above a critical value of the field, bubbles (droplets) nucleated in a liquid (gas) environment have extraordinary properties. The dynamical process of phase separation does not fall into any of the existing categories of phase separation because the field breaks the rotational and translational symmetries. In addition, the mechanical, optical, and chemical properties of the fluids with or without electric field are very different. Consequently, field gradients can be used to confine chemical and biological reactions to small volumes or to control their rate.

One post-doctoral position is available for a theoretical study of the physics of the phase transition, and to model analytically and numerically  chemical and biological reactions in field gradients. The second post-doctoral position is available to conduct the experiments in chemistry and biology,  in collaboration with Drs. Anne Bernheim and Lemcoff (both at BGU)

We are seeking ambitious post-doctoral candidates with a Ph.D. in physics or chemical physics. Initial appointments will be for one year, with renewal up to three years subject to satisfactory progress and mutual agreement. The positions are available immediately (timing can be flexible) and will provide a highly competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.

To apply, please email: (i) a cover letter describing your interest in one of the positions, (ii) the names and contact information for three references, and (iii) a short curriculum vitae (including publications) to Yoav Tsori: tsori@bgu.ac.il
