Different kinds of inhibition are important components of cognitive control. My research is about the interaction between these components as seen in stop-signal inhibition and distractor interference in Stroop tasks. I`m trying to understand whether the inhibition needed in these tasks (stop-signal and Stroop) can be attributed to the same mechanism or perhaps each task activates a different control structure. Additionally, in line with the research of Goldfarb and Henik (2006, 2007), I`m trying to find new evidence for existence of task conflict in the Stroop task, in addition to an information conflict in incongruent and in congruent trials. My goal is to keep the task control mechanism occupied and by that, to "keep the guard busy", so I`ll be able to observe the task conflict in Stroop incongruent and congruent trials.
