Ellen GarveyNew Jersey City UniversityEllen Gruber Garvey is the author of The Adman in the Parlor: Magazines and the Gendering of Consumer Culture, 1880s to 1910s; she worked with Sharon Harris on Blue Pencils and Hidden Hands: Women Editing Periodicals. This past year she held the Josephus Daniels Research Triangle Fellowship at the National Humanities Center in North Carolina, and holds a National Endowment for the Humanities “We the People” fellowship for this year, finishing her book entitled Book, Paper, Scissors: Scrapbooks Remake Print Culture on how nineteenth century Americans used scrapbooks to negotiate their reading of the press and their understanding of their worlds. She has written on book advertising, farm women’s reading, and magazines, among other topics. She is an Associate Professor of English at New Jersey City University. |
