Department of Clinical Biochemistry and Pharmacology

The Department of Biochemistry and Clinical Pharmacology is part of the School for Biomedical Research at the Faculty of Health Sciences at BGU. Our researchers drive multidisciplinary research that aims to develop and advance novel therapeutics in diverse fields of medical sciences. We foster a vibrant and highly collaborative environment, spanning basic to clinical biomedical research.

The research in the department is currently focused on:

  • Novel approaches for drug targeting and delivery
  • Mechanisms of tissue protection in inflammatory and infectious diseases
  • Computational systems biology
  • Cellular and visceral metabolism and bioenergetics
  • Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology
  • Neuroscience

The department integrates a wide spectrum of advanced methodological expertise, including innovative chemical synthesis, advanced chromatography, modern molecular biology techniques, single-cell and single nuclei RNA sequencing, high-resolution imaging, and in vivo disease models to support cutting-edge and translational research.

Prof. Ehud Ohana's Critical Research Destroyed Forever

01/01/0001
Prof. Ehud Ohana’s research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev is a beacon of hope against diseases like cancer, Crohn's, Colitis, and diabetes. Because of the catastrophic damage from the recent Iranian missile attack, his team faces an agonizing reality: it will take 2-5 years to recover and generate new samples, and nearly 2 years just to recalibrate the precision equipment essential for their life-saving work. This isn't just a setback; it's a direct threat to the progress of global medical breakthroughs.
