Behavior and Safety Rules in the University

  • Security Check and Identification – All people who enter the campus are required to identify themselves to the security guards and must  complete a security check process. A person who refuses to identify himself or show his belongings will be denied entry to the campus.
  • Entry with vehicle/motorcycle – Entering with a motor vehicle is permitted only with a valid parking permit.
  • Entry with a firearm – Entering with a firearm is permitted with a valid license following a security check and identification.
  • Animal entry – is forbidden, excluding guide dogs.
  • Bicycles – Entry with bicycles is permitted. Riding is allowed only on roads, parking is allowed only in designated places.

Bulletin Boards – It is forbidden to hang any personal or advertising announcements/messages such as car sales etc. For messages on Student Union's bulletin boards, please speak to the Union for approval.

Advertising – It is forbidden to distribute any promotional material around campus without approval from the Dean of Students.

Smoking – Smoking is forbidden in all the different buildings. Smoking is permitted only in designated open spaces outside of the buildings. Map of smoking areas.

Peddling – It is forbidden to peddle around campus without approval from the Dean of Students.

Ball games and Sporting Activity – is forbidden around campus.

Clothing – It is forbidden to walk around campus shirtless or barefoot.

Do not bring bicycles, roller-skates, scooters etc. in to the buildings. Do not ride bicycles or any other vehicle on the lawns or sidewalks.

•Personal belongings – You are required to keep your personal belongings safe and not to leave it unsupervised around campus. Please lock your office door when leaving the place, even if it is for a few minutes.

Emergency – If you are required to leave the class/office due to a safety/security issue, you are requested to do so quickly (without running) and to leave via the fastest possible way to an open area/parking lot. You must listen to the security guards’ instructions

•Entry is permitted only for people with a permanent or temporary permit that was issued by the security department.
•Rules for issuing permits and costs are available in the security department’s website.
•The permit is private and is not transferable. It is absolutely forbidden to transfer the person to a different person/vehicle.
•Parking – You must park only in marked parking spaces and according to traffic signs.
•Driving around campus will be done according to traffic signs and security guards’ instructions.
•Driving and parking against the rules are considered a disciplinary offense, the perpetrator will receive a report.

Employees who are travelling abroad as part of their work are required to report to the security department in advance in order to receive a security briefing.

•In case of any suspicious or unusual object or person, you are requested to report to the security department (to this end, any object without an owner is considered a suspicious object.
•If there is any suspected burglary or theft of personal belongings or work equipment, you are requested to repot immediately to the security department.
•In case of a fire around campus – you are requested to report it immediately to the security department
•In case of an injury or a medical event you are requested to report it to the security department (for your information – there is an EMT in Marcus campus at all times)
•Suspicious mail – if you received a mail item and you do not know the sender identity and it’s content is suspicious, do not open the envelope and report to the security department immediately.

You are now entering a campus that is protected by an armed and skilled security team.

Your weapon may remain in your possession, but you are requested not to use it in any way.

Using your weapon in case of routine or emergency may endanger your life or the lives of others for the following reasons:​

You are not known to the security team and security guards may open fire at you.

Since some of the security guards are not identifiable to you, you may open fire at a security guard whom you mistakenly identified as a hostile force.

Using your personal weapon in any way is strictly prohibited.

Security Team

At the beginning of the academic year, we bring these rules to your attention. Please be aware of the following:

Entrance instructions to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev:

Entrance to campus requires security check

Entrance to campus requires presenting identification card – please prepare this card  in advance

Please adhere to instructions of security guards

Suspicious object: Any object that is not in correct place and owners are unknown.

If you see a suspicious object – do not touch, open or move this object, since it may explode at any time!

Do not go or stand by the suspicious object. Warn passerby about the object and ask them to stay away

Suspicious person or someone with suspicious behavior: someone who is dressed suspiciously or seems suspicious in the way he is dressed, what he is carrying, is behaving unreasonably or seems out of place.

In case of recognizing suspicious person, maintain eye contact with him and call security: 08-6461555 or 08-6461888 or call police 100. Do not make contact with suspicious person independently and wait for security.

Fire:

Distance passerby from the area of fire until security arrives. Do not try to extinguish fire under any circumstances.

Call security at 08-6461555 or 08-6461888 or 102 to fire department or police 100.

Do not use elevators! Only take stairs!

Earthquakes: If there is an earthquake when you are on campus, do the following:

If possible, leave the building and go outside

If you cannot evacuate the building quickly, enter a safe room and leave the door of the safe room open

If you cannot leave the building quickly and there is no safe room, go to the stairwell. If possible, keep walking down the stairs exiting the building. Cover your head and neck with your hands.

If possible, take shelter under heavy furniture or sit on ground near inner wall.

Outside – go to an open area that is far way from buildings, power lines and tress.

During an earthquake do not use elevators!

Firing of rockets to the city:

When you hear an alarm, immediately enter a protected area closest to you

Every student/faculty member should be familiar with their surroundings and the protected areas closest to where they are usually located:

All buildings have signs directing the public to the closest safe room

If there is no safe room in close vicinity, do the safest thing:

For those in a building – choose your protected area as follows:

Inner area (such as hallway) without windows or external walls, under two ceilings

Stairwell under two ceilings without wall facing west

Room with minimum amount of windows without wall facing west

Under two ceilings (when explosion is heard bend and cover your head under windows)

Close the door and the windows, sit on the floor under windows next to inner wall and not across from window)

For people outside building:

In built area – if possible enter closest building and act according to instructions of those in building

In open area without building in close proximity – lie on the ground and cover your head with your hands

Leaving protected areas:

After the event leave protected areas after ten minutes, unless receiving other instructions

Do not stand near rockets on the ground. It is important to stay away from unidentified objects or electricity wires or rockets

In case of alarm do not use elevator!

For people riding bikes and scooters:

Riding allowed on roads and with helmets only

It is forbidden to park vehicles in areas not designated for this purpose, especially areas designated for handicapped

Vehicles parked in areas that are forbidden will be locked with Denver boot and punished

It is forbidden to bring vehicles to university buildings including dorm rooms

Instructions re smoking:

Smoking on campus is forbidden, except in designated areas.

Medicine:​

Defibrillators are located throughout the campus. In case of medical emergency call MADA 101 and security department at 08-6461555 or 08-6461888 to verify location of defibrillators.
