Facilities

All the research facilities of the BIDR are open within the framework of this program. The BIDR is divided into departments that deal with a variety of topics, as follows:

  • Desert Ecology
    Animal and plant at all levels of organization.
  • Dryland Agriculture
    Irrigation of field crops, greenhouse management, water harvesting, plant introduction, agricultural meteorology, root physiology, agroforestry, range management and animal physiology.
  • Dryland Biotechnologies
    aquaculture, biostress, cellular and molecular biology of plants in controlled environments, desert plant biotechnology, microalgal biotechnology, tissue culture and propagation.
  • Environmental Hydrology & Microbiology
    Hydrological processes, modeling of transport processes, environmental and water resources engineering, microbial ecology, environmental microbiology, aquifer bioremediation, climate change.
  • Desalination & Water Treatment
    Investigating and Developing new membranes and processes for desalination and treatment of all kinds of water.
  • Man in the Desert
    Urban & regional planning in arid zones, energy & climate in desert architecture, anthropology, sociology, regional development, human geography, economic history.
  • Solar Energy & Environmental Physics
    Solar energy utilization and applied optics, desert climate, remote sensing and modeling of desertification.
